Yakov Kedmi Explains Turkey’s New Vision! Sultan Erdogan is Rebuilding Old Muslim Empire!
Yakov Kedmi, public figure, Israel: Americans enjoy stepping on the same rake more than Russians. And recently, they've been doing so systematically. Such a minor and insignificant state as India tested a nuclear weapon, and what happened? The Americans imposed an embargo on it. What happened to India? Russia, France, and tiny Israel entered India's arms market. The Americans spent the next 20 years like a bat out of hell, apologizing for that «misunderstanding.» Now, they're trying to nip into the Indian market but, alas, Indians are so hard to deal with! Once bitten, twice shy. Then came another insignificant state, this time, an Arab one. It was Egypt. The Egyptians decided that they didn't like Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood at the helm. Then Obama, the great expert on Islam and the Middle East, imposed an embargo, suspending all arms contracts and joint exercises with the Egyptian Army. Who's supplying arms to the Egyptian Army now? Russia.
The Americans have just stepped on the Turkish rake. I'm not telling the whole story. And Obama again refused to supply arms, he refused to supply the Patriot. When he did so, Turkey was right to say, «Guys, we're building an air defense system. If you don't sell it, we'll find ways to get it.» Two years later, the Americans are back, saying: «Okay, we'll sell it to you.» How much? The price they asked for the Patriot was almost the same as for the S-400. But you can't compare these systems. We're Turks, but not boneheads. We'll never agree to it. You won't own us twice. You're going to sell your clunker for the same price that we can buy new stuff from Russia? That's it, it's a done deal. Russia isn't to blame. Every time, it's the Americans' fault, and I've mentioned just a few major cases. Condemning Russia, they're trying to blame it for their stupidity. Of course, Russia will sell it. Who wouldn't? If France had the same systems, they would sell them too. But they don't. To date, only two countries produce air defense systems that meet Turkey's requirements, and Russia has outdone the U.S. They don't want to sell them the F-35. Fine. There's an aircraft called the Sukhoi-57. Turkey has already said that they'll buy it. It hasn't asked if we sell it.
— May we ask the Americans to refuse to sell something else to Turkey?
— No need to ask. No need to ask, they themselves do such foolish things that none of their rivals or enemies could ever come up with. They do it themselves.
Now let's speak about Turkey and understand its motivation. Turkey is headed by Erdogan, who belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood. I'll give you an example for you to understands his train of thought. Once he tried to woo the Arabs, and what do you think he started with? With Egypt. Having arrived in Egypt, Erdogan said: «We're the Ottoman Empire. We didn't oppress you for 700 years. We saved you from the evil of European civilization. Turkish Islam is the most advanced version of Islam, and for 700 years, Turkish Islam protected the Orient and the Arab world from the destructive influence of Europe and the West, including the USA. This is what he thinks. He believes that Turkey is a great state that needs a revival. But there were two configurations of Turkey. The first was the Ottoman Empire. What about the second? At that time, Mecca wasn't the center of Islam. Well, Mecca existed, but the center of Islam was Kushta, Turkey. The Turkish sultan was the chief Muslim. He shaped Islamic ideology. And Erdogan wants to bring it back. It's the polar opposite of Atatürk. Mustafa Kemal wanted to make Turkey European, while Erdogan wants to make Turkey Turkish, anti-European, anti-Western, beyond Europe. That's what he strives for. You're right to say that there's something that has remained since the Cold War. It's the threat of the Soviet Union, which collapsed long ago. It was the Soviet threat that made Turkey join NATO. It also joined another alliance that fell into oblivion. It was the Baghdad Pact. Who was in it? Turkey, Iran, Great Britain. At that time, it was looking for a hole to nip into to hide from the USSR, which was at its doorstep. Now, there's no Soviet threat. Can Turkey rely on the Americans? They keep slapping Turkey and the whole world in the face, always owning them both politically and economically. So, the Americans do what they don't understand.
— They never give a damn about what they're doing.
— They're pushing Turkey eastwards. They're driving it away from Europe. NATO is the last thing that is holding in Turkey. When thinking of whether to leave NATO or not, Turkey doesn't wonder: „Why does Turkey need NATO?“ If Turkey gets nothing from NATO, it only has one question to consider: „Will leaving NATO inflict such damage on Turkey that it isn't yet ready to receive?“ Turkey doesn't benefit from NATO. It's half-fighting with another NATO member state. Did NATO help settle the conflict? No. Turkey protects Turks in Cyprus.
— Do you mean Greece?
— That's fair enough. But NATO is against it. Greece is against it. Now, they want to extract gas on the Turkish side of Cyprus. But NATO objects to it. And so does Greece. But Turkey doesn't want to respond, it's Turks who live there. Turkey didn't let Greece annex Cyprus by force. And they consider it to be fair. And now, the whole world supports Greece and Cyprus. The world is against Turkey, and NATO is at the forefront. So, Turkey is finishing its drift from NATO to an independent, Middle Eastern state with its own ethnic community. Let me recall that Turkic languages are spoken in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan. So, the Turks feel that they are right. „We are a great people, we form the Turkic community, we're a great Muslim state. How come the descendants of Europeans that live in North America dare lecture us and make us behave against our principles?
But the Americans don't understand that. Thus, they'll act in the same way as with Egypt, Turkey, and all the other countries. They'll keep playing in their imaginary world, which collapsed long ago. But the Americans are facing another issue. Their technologies and science are so well-developed, but it takes them a long time to feel the world change. They still believe that they're the sole country that rules a world under Pax Americana. That's why they go to Turkey and say, “So what, what can you do?» But they don't realize that there are a few more countries in the world, such as Russia, China, India.
— I guess they'll realize it when we're at their heels economically. It'll spur their understanding. I do see your point, but the thing is that we know that the majority of wars that Russia has ever waged were against Turkey. So, we'd better brace up and remember history.
— As for the wars, Turkey and Iran are still afraid of Russia. And that's true, as nobody has ever beaten them as fiercely as Russia has. And since Alexander the Great, nobody has ever beaten the Persians as badly as Russia has. But this isn't the case. The United States is a military threat that Russia has dealt with. Nor does China pose a military threat to Russia. If anyone thinks they could scare Russia with a Turkish threat, they don't know anything about Russia and what's going on in the world.
— Speaking of Turkey, the purchase of the S-400 is a landmark event. It means that Turkey has started to build independent, strategic, military clout. The S-400 is the first step. Then they'll turn to the S-500, 5th generation aircraft, the Sukhoi-57 instead of the F-35, there's no other option. Turkey's main aspiration is to become a militarily independent state, which can ensure its independence. A state that wants to ensure its independence in the Middle East must have nuclear weapons. This is what Turkey will inevitably do. It's just a matter of time. But, logically, Turkey is more likely to be a nuclear power than North Korea, and then it will make everybody listen to it. It's one of Erdogan's strategic aspirations. As the saying goes, buying the S-400 is the first, small step to Turkey's great future.
