Seattle Shutdown Triggers St. Petersburg Eviction - Russia is Replying to American Aggression in Kin
To recap, yesterday Moscow announced the expulsion of 60 American diplomats and closing of the Consulate General in Saint Petersburg. The diplomats were given two days to vacate the building. Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, specified that such measures are being taken because of the aggressive actions from the USA, which closed the Russian Consulate General in Seattle.
The USA deprived the Russian Consulate General building in Seattle of immunity. This was announced by the Russian Consul General Valery Timashov.
Valery Timashov, Russian Consul General: «We are talking about that as a matter of law the host country, of course, gives its permission to use one or another building as a residence. The US authorities formally with a note revoked and practically deprived this building of diplomatic immunity and privilege. This is, unfortunately, a repeat of the scenario which took places six months ago, with our Consulate General in San Francisco».
According to the Consul, the closing of the Consulate will affect the interests of 30,000 Russians. The diplomats are to vacate the building before April 24th. Right now the evacuation headquarters are deployed in the consulate-general.
To recap, the USA announced the closing of the Russian consulate-general in Seattle. They announced several reasons for this: possible Moscow involvement in the assault on Sergey Skripal and his daughter and also the proximity of the Consulate to the submarine base and the Boeing factory.
