State Duma is Interested in How American Media Affects Russian Politics
Rephrasing the poet «what's in your voice?» The State Duma deputies finally found an answer to that question. They decided to figure out how foreign media affects the election process in Russia. They checked out CNN, Radio Liberty, and Voice of America. Georgy Podgorny is reporting on what they heard.
Voice of America and Radio Liberty are used to pressure political processes in Russia. This theory is being verified in the State Duma committee on informational politics and technologies. That these media sources tried to affect election campaigns in our country at Washington's command. Our task wasn't creating stamps or cliches from the media's point of view. But to take an objective look.
Just how objective is the media that works here, but is, in fact, American media? They are taking this issue very seriously. They even called representatives from CNN and Radio Liberty. They didn't want to participate. But the search for truth didn't end there. They researched the quantity of western media publications without negative intent and with an alternative point of view provided. The amount of such material is next to nothing. Several experts confirmed that the American informational «train» is moving towards creating a deceitful image of Russia. There are whole structures created just to bend the truth.
The goal isn't just to lie, but to also obtrude their interests. They organized special divisions including those in the military, in special services, and other authorities, as well as in non-commercial organizations for direct informational confrontation with Russia. The revision of American media was initiated by the State Duma deputy, Konstantin Zatulin. The reason wasn't just a great amount of false information, but an attempt to harm Russian journalists in USA.
In other words, this is just a response for unofficial sanctions against Russian media. In reality, US is acting, just like they always acted, according to the saying Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi — «Gods may do what cattle may not.» So if they determined themselves to be Gods, anything is allowed. They specifically target Russian media — in March the New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen brought a bill to the Congress' attention on additional check-ups on Russia Today.
The official decided to determine just how compliant this TV company was with the laws of foreign agents. Maybe our overseas colleagues, sitting in the Senate and discussing the dangers of Russia Today, should concentrate on other issues, not on the issue of Russia Today, especially since there are no violations or breaches from their side. This bill has already been called an oppressive legislative plague for the freedom of the word, that the White House loves so much.
The best defense is high-quality professionalism. In the end it all comes down to where the consumers choose to get their information from. An antidote to any lie, for any attempts to pick at us in any way, and somehow affect us, is the highly professional level of our journalists. As a result, the stimulation techniques and those who profit from it were studied. The experts state that there will be no restrictions in Russia.
Meanwhile, pinpoint blows on Russian media prove that US can no longer impose their indiscriminate point of view. Washington is just not used to this.
